Carmel Garden Show '97 Old World Elegance

May 8 through 11, 1997
at Quail Lodge presented by House Beautiful

In the land of the Midnight Sun, summertime is anticipated with much fervor … life is lived out-of-doors.

Landscape designer Roark Craven has created an authentic Lusthus (summerhouse), evoking Scandinavian ambiance which serves as a focal point of this elegant, verdant Eden.

The structure is fashioned of rough-hewn Monterey Pine timbers and hand-cast shakes in keeping with old world craftsmanship.

Golden quartzite paving stones lead one to the intimate fern grotto and reflection pond where the splendor of lush foliage and cascading water beckons.

Low-voltage lighting is an element which enhances the tranquility of this tableau.

Indigenous flora are featured, culminating in a space which epitomizes "Garden Reflections."
